Ethnomedicinal Values of Weeds in Kanchanpur District, Far-Western Nepal

Background: Far-Western Terai Region of Nepal is a large source floral diversity. Most the plants are medicinal and available as wild or weeds. Weeds unwanted competing with crop for common resources (water, mineral nutrients, space, light) reduce yield wanted plants. However, weeds their properties were scarcely documented. The aim present study was to explore diversity commonly used Kanchanpur district, be precise on cataloguing indigenous knowledge how local managed utilized by people.Methods: district border India at southwestern part country. information uses collected using semi-structured questionnaires in which participatory rural appraisal (PRA) rapid (RRA) tools used. quantitative data analyzed use value (UV), informant consensus factor (ICF), Fidelity Level (FL), Relative Frequency Citation (RFC).Results: A total 108 weed species recorded under 44 families treat different ailments. Among them, 79 dicotyledons, 25 monocotyledons (19 grasses 6 sedges species) 4 pteridophytes. composition respective showed highest (12%) occurrence Poaceae Asteraceae first rank lowest (1%) Alismataceae Typhaceae sixth category. Weed being similar other plant ethnobotany, however ethnomedicinal remarkable. Informant Consensus Factor (ICF) (0.75) fever palpitation heart ICF (0.45) paralysis arthritis. Use Value (UV) (RFC) demonstrate that could further pharmacological advancement drug discovery.
